Jackson Market and Deli

4065 Jackson Ave, Culver City, CA 90232

Coming from the East Coast/Tri-State Area, I’ve found LA’s most glaring gap in the food scene is a quality and classical deli. Sure, there are the classics like Bay Cities or Langer’s. But both overplayed and oversold to cater to the masses. I wanted a deli where I could grab a quality sandwich, some life-saving iced coffee, a few light groceries, beer & wine, and maybe something sweet. That’s what I found with Jackson Market, and they offer it in spades.

Gloating a solid menu of house made sandwiches & wraps, these guys show out for the deli fanatic who craves a wide variety of lunch favorites. Whether you’re a meat lover or a veggie fanatic, you’re sure to find your sweet spot here. The Jackson Club wrap is phenomenal. The veggie sandwich is both fresh and refreshing if you’re not a meat lover. If you’re feeling creative, you can customize your own sandwich, with a plethora of meats, breads/wraps, veggies, cheeses, and sauces to choose from. I recommend adding caramelized onions to just about anything. Simply check off your selections on one of the little slips at the counter and bombs away.

If you’re like me, you’ll grab a little container of their homemade chicken salad from the fridge while you wait. It has great consistency and the cranberry is a welcomed touch of acidity. Head up to pay, grab your caffeine fix, and dare I suggest, a fresh baked cookie or brownie?

Once your sandwich is ready, head on back to the patio where you’ll find a peaceful backyard vibe with bistro tables and fountains. A quaint little scene to mow down your Sunday sorrows.

Where Jackson Market still falls short – the breakfast sandwiches & breakfast burritos are not up to snuff. The garlic aioli can only mask the miss for so long, before you’re just eating it for the mayo. It simply doesn’t hold a candle to the classic East Coast bacon, egg, and cheese. When they finally crack the code on this, you’ll have yourself a full spectrum deli in LA. However, don’t sleep on the Bagel with Lox. They’ve got that one down just fine.

I must mention, Jackson Market’s employees and management are some of the most gracious and courteous folks out there. You’ll feel like a regular on your first visit without a doubt. Please tip these fine human beings, they’re doing sacred work.

8/10.
